Amazon Is Handing Throne and Liberty Back to NC in the West

Throne and Liberty is about to undergo a major change in the West.

Amazon Game Studios has announced that it will transition Western live operations and publishing responsibilities for Throne and Liberty back to the game's developer, NC, operating through FirstSpark Games.

The transition is currently planned for Q4 2026.

For players worried about what that means for the future of the MMORPG, there's one important point to understand immediately:

Throne and Liberty is not shutting down.

The game will continue operating in the West, but NC will take direct control of the service currently operated by Amazon Game Studios.

What's Changing With Throne and Liberty?

Amazon Game Studios has operated Throne and Liberty in Western markets for nearly two years.

Beginning in Q4 2026, those responsibilities will transition back to NC and FirstSpark Games.

That means several things behind the scenes will change, including:

  • Publisher
  • Live operations team
  • Customer support provider
  • Support channels and policies
  • Terms of Service

NC will effectively take direct responsibility for operating Throne and Liberty in Western markets.

Are Throne and Liberty Servers Shutting Down?

No.

The announcement is a publishing and service transition, not the end of Throne and Liberty.

Amazon and NC say existing regions and realms will remain in place, including the Americas, Europe, Asia and Oceania.

Cross-play will also continue.

Players on Steam, Xbox, PlayStation and NC's PURPLE platform will be able to play within the same unified environment after the migration.

What Happens to Your Characters and Progress?

For most players, everything carries over automatically.

NC will receive the game data necessary to continue operating your account, including:

  • Characters
  • Character progression
  • Inventory
  • Entitlements
  • Account ID
  • Platform identifiers

Players do not need to manually request a transfer.

After the migration, players will need to complete NC's account activation process and accept its new Terms of Service before continuing to play.

What Happens to Lucent and Other Currency?

Your currency isn't disappearing either.

Amazon says the quantity and value of existing Lucent, Loyalty Points, Sollant and Ornate Coins will remain unchanged through the transition.

Players can continue spending Lucent before the migration.

Any remaining Lucent balance at the time of the transition is expected to transfer to NC and remain usable afterward.

Some policies surrounding currency may change under NC's Terms of Service, however, so players should watch for additional information closer to the migration.

Steam, PlayStation and Xbox Aren't Going Away

Players will not have to repurchase Throne and Liberty.

Existing Steam and console accounts remain unaffected, and the game will continue to be available through:

  • Steam
  • PlayStation
  • Xbox

NC's PURPLE platform will also become another way to access the game.

Cross-progression will be supported between Steam and PURPLE, but NC says cross-progression will not extend between other platform combinations.

Throne and Liberty isn't shutting down. NC is taking direct control of the Western service, with characters, progression and inventory expected to carry over.

Do You Have to Reinstall Throne and Liberty?

No.

According to the transition FAQ, players should be able to continue using their existing installation.

A normal game patch will be released as part of the process, but Amazon says players on Steam, PlayStation and Xbox should not need to uninstall and reinstall the game.

What If You Don't Want Your Data Transferred to NC?

Players will have the ability to opt out of the migration.

But there's a major consequence.

Opting out means your characters, progression and inventory will not transfer to NC.

If you later decide to play under NC's Western service, you'll need to start over.

Players who do nothing during the opt-out period will have their eligible game data transferred automatically.

For the overwhelming majority of active players who want to continue playing, doing nothing is therefore expected to preserve their progression.

What Happens to Guilds?

Guild progression and membership are expected to remain intact unless individual players choose to opt out.

If a guild member opts out, that character will be removed from the guild.

If the guild leader opts out, leadership will automatically transfer according to the game's succession system.

A guild that loses every member through opt-outs will be disbanded.

Will Throne and Liberty Still Get Updates?

Yes.

Regular content updates, bug fixes and maintenance are expected to continue.

There is one important caveat.

Amazon says major updates, including Nix, may be held until after the service transition so the teams can prioritize moving player data and operations successfully to NC.

That means the Q4 transition could temporarily affect the timing of some major content releases even though normal support for the game continues.

When Is the Throne and Liberty NC Transition?

Amazon and NC currently say the transition will happen sometime during Q4 2026.

That means the migration should occur between October and December, but an exact date has not yet been announced.

The companies also haven't finalized whether there will be downtime during the transition.

More information about the exact migration date, possible downtime, customer support changes and other requirements will be announced closer to the transition.

What Throne and Liberty Players Should Do

Most players don't need to do anything yet.

Amazon recommends watching official announcements for the exact transition schedule and any additional instructions.

After the migration, players who want to continue playing will need to accept NC's Terms of Service.

Unless you specifically want to prevent your game data from transferring to NC, do not opt out of the migration.

A New Chapter for Throne and Liberty

This is a significant change for Throne and Liberty in the West, but it shouldn't be confused with a shutdown announcement.

Instead, NC and FirstSpark Games are taking direct control of the Western version of their game.

Characters, progression, inventory, Lucent, platforms, regions and cross-play are all expected to survive the transition.

The biggest unknown now is exactly when the handover will happen and what NC has planned for Throne and Liberty once it controls the Western service directly.

Release Timer will continue tracking the transition as Amazon and NC announce additional dates and details.
