JAXA’s Hayabusa2

JAXA’s Hayabusa2 spacecraft is scheduled to perform a high-speed flyby of the asteroid 2001 CC21 (nicknamed Torifune) on July 5, 2026. This encounter is part of an extended mission to study a new, different type of asteroid (S-type) and support planetary defense technology demonstrations, passing at a relative velocity of approximately 5 km/s.
