Burning Man is an annual experimental gathering that transforms Nevada's Black Rock Desert into Black Rock City, a temporary metropolis centered on community, art, radical self-reliance, and self-expression. Guided by ten core principles established by co-founder Larry Harvey, the gathering relies entirely on its attendees to construct interactive art installations, build theme camps, and operate custom mutant vehicles rather than hiring scheduled stage headliners. The 2026 theme, Axis Mundi, focuses on interconnectedness, shared social realities, and humanity's relationship with the natural world. A central tradition of the event is the burning of a large wooden effigy, known as the Man, on the Saturday evening before Labor Day.
