I Must Be Dreaming marks Alabama Shakes' third full-length studio project and their first in over a decade following 2015's Sound & Color. It is also the group's first record created as a trio consisting of Brittany Howard, Heath Fogg, and Zac Cockrell. Recorded in Nashville at Sound Emporium Studios and Blackbird Studio, the record was produced by the band in collaboration with Shawn Everett.
Leaning into a psychedelic soul sound, the material addresses themes of love, mortality, human connection, and modern life. The release aligns with a headline tour spanning North America and Europe, featuring stops at Radio City Music Hall, joint dates with Tedeschi Trucks Band, and an appearance at the Ohana Festival.
