Written by comic writer Kieron Gillen and powered by Unreal Engine 5, MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls centers on the cosmic Challenge of the Champion tournament. Story mode features rival squad factions, including the Fighting Avengers, Unbreakable X-Men, Amazing Guardians, Samurai Outriders, and Knights of Doom.
Matches begin with a single active fighter and an assist character. Players unlock all four lineup slots over the course of a fight by taking damage and executing arena-altering Wall Breaks.
