This live-action musical adventure reimagines Disney's 2016 animated feature film. The story follows a teenager from the island of Motunui who answers the ocean's call to sail beyond the reef. Joined by the shapeshifting demigod Maui, she sets out across the open sea on a quest to restore the stolen heart of Te Fiti and save her home from a devastating curse.
The film's screenplay was written by Jared Bush and Dana Ledoux Miller. Original animated film voice actress Auliʻi Cravalho served as an executive producer on the project and contributed to a new original song, "Along The Way." The supporting ensemble includes Frankie Adams as Sina, Rena Owen as Gramma Tala, and Jemaine Clement, who reprises his animated role as Tamatoa. Musical selections feature work by Lin-Manuel Miranda, Mark Mancina, and Opetaia Foaʻi.
